How do you charge your Volkswagen ID.3 with a charging station at home?
Choosing to have a charging station fitted at home is always a good idea.
The first electric Volkswagen ID.3 is expected to be delivered in the UK in Summer 2020. The electric Volkswagen premiered recently and here is what Volkswagen say about the car;

The Volkswagen ID.3 offers the usual ease of use and comfort that you would expect from Volkswagen. The driving range of electric cars has long been a concern of those that drive gasoline cars. Therefore, with the Volkswagen’s biggest battery (77 kWh, net), you can travel up to 340 miles on full charge. Hopefully this will give the the incentive needed make the switch to electric driving.
The interest in the electric Volkswagen is already high and the number of registrations for the car speaks volumes.
The top model can cover up to 340 miles on one charge at a charging station
What we know about the electric Volkswagen is that the car is very well equipped. The car gets standard navigation, digital radio and 19-inch wheels. It also has heated front seats. After the ID.3 Volkswagen follows a complete line-up of the ID.3 with an entry-level version with a range of 205 miles of range. In addition, there will be a version with 58 kWh and a range of 260 miles. The top model of the ID.3 should, according to initial information, be able to cover 340 miles with a full battery.
With LED matrix headlights, interactive interior lighting and smart navigation, the production of the Volkswagen ID.3 is completely CO2 neutral, from material to end product. The unavoidable CO2 emissions that remain are compensated by Volkswagen’s participating in climate protection projects. The Volkswagen ID.3 will feature LED matrix headlights and offers interactive interior lighting, smart navigation and deep bass. In the ID.3 you control various functions with your voice. The new Volkswagen, which is already highly sought after by the large number of registrations, will be available in ten standard colours.
MEB platform with flat batteries in the floor of the car
The basic battery has a capacity of 45 kWh and can be charged with a maximum of 7.2 kW alternating current and a maximum of 50 kW direct current; 100 kW direct current is optionally offered. Further information says that the ID.3 with the largest battery (72 kWh) has a range of 340 miles on a full battery. You can charge this battery with a maximum of 11 kW alternating current and 125 kW direct current. The Volkswagen ID.3 has a so-called MEB platform. This is a smart platform with flat batteries in the floor of the car, therefore more space and a greater driving range too.
Increased availability of fast charging stations along motorways
It’s important to charge your Volkswagen correctly. The charging time naturally depends on how empty your battery is and what type of ID.3 charging station you use. Your battery can be charged with a maximum of 11 kW alternating current or 100 kW direct current. You can charge the car faster by using the fast charging option on direct current. Within half an hour you can top up on electricity to a range of up to at least 180 miles.
There is no restriction on placing a charging station on your own land
Ideally, you would charge your Volkswagen ID.3 with a charging station at your home. If you have your own land, you can also do this without any restrictions. If you do not have your own land, an application and a permit must be submitted to the council of the town in which you live. The council can then set up a charging point in the public space. Please note; then it becomes a public charging point and therefore not a charging point that only you can use. You can also make your own charging point available on your own site as a public charging point. It is possible to earn back part of the investment in your own charging station. As a result, you may regularly have a strange car in your driveway, since your charging point can then be included in the national register of public charging points.
You use a type 2 plug for home and public use
Two types of plugs fit the Volkswagen ID.3 connection. You use the type 2 plug for home and public use. There’s a cable and plug that comes with your car, and you use it for charging at an EVBox or a public charging station. If you are going to charge at a fast charging station, then you simply use a CCS plug. Fast chargers have fixed cables with these plugs so you don’t have to worry about finding one for your car and carrying it in the boot. So the ID.3 has the flexibility to be charged via an AC (alternating current) home charging point, via a public alternating current charging point or via DC (direct current) at a fast charging point.
In conclusion, all signs point towards the Volkswagen ID.3 offering excellent value for money. Exact prices are not yet known, but insiders say that the price of the entry-level model is under £30,000 while the top model is below £40,000.
